Briar Patch Records is an independent record label founded by Jay Trainer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It exists for one reason: to release music that matters — songs built on storytelling, instinct, and the long tradition of artists who choose craft over convenience.

The name comes from the thickets that grow wild across western Pennsylvania — tangled, resilient, rooted deep in difficult soil. That's the kind of music Briar Patch puts out. Not polished for algorithms. Not shaped by trends. Grown slowly, with intention, and released when it's ready.

Every release on the label — from the San Francisco-recorded beginnings of The Waking Hours to the expanded A Whisper of Ruin — Deluxe Edition — reflects a philosophy of patience and authenticity. No rushing a record to meet a deadline. No cutting corners on the sound.

Briar Patch Records is currently home to Jay Trainer's complete catalogue: eight releases spanning nearly two decades of folk, acoustic rock, and Americana. The label is always looking forward — new recordings, new collaborations, new chapters in the story.

Two Clear Lanes

The public Jay Trainer Band catalogue remains a human-led artist project. Briar Patch Records may also explore clearly disclosed AI-native label experiments in the future, but those projects will be separated from Jay Trainer Band so the authorship, identity, and trust around the music stay clear.
