Liner Notes

This record started the way most things in my life start — without a plan, without permission, at an hour when most people are asleep. What became A Whisper of Ruin was never meant to be an album. It was a collection of dispatches from a year that broke open and rebuilt itself.

The deluxe edition grew out of necessity. Three more songs appeared after the original release — songs that belonged with the others but arrived late, the way certain truths do. Live recordings from the same San Francisco era captured something the studio versions couldn't: the room, the audience, the moment.
